Product Overview

Leather Getting Sticky Restoration Kit L7 by Leather Doctor restores sticky and slimy leather caused by absorbing sweat and harmful cleaners and conditioners.

Leather Getting Sticky Restoration Kit L7 is a three-step holistic approach to restoring leather from denaturing into sticky rawhide.

Step 1. Cleaner 1.5 and Acidifier 2.0 systems remove the leather sticky and tacky problem.

Step 2. Hydrator 3.3 and Fatliquor 5.0 systems hydrate, soften, and strengthen leather.

Step 3. Protector B imparts a non-stick surface.

Note: Concentrate in the bottle has to be mixed with Distilled Water before use:

Step 1 How to work with Cleaner 1.5 and Acidifier 2.0?

1* Dry soil removal before application.

2* Apply Cleaner 1.5 and work with horsehair Brush 1 and towel extract until the towel shows clean.

3* Apply Acidifier 2.0 and work with horsehair Brush 1 to remove suspended residue and towel extract until the towel shows clean.

4* Repeat Acidifier 2.0 to saturate and dwell into the thickness of the leather to pH balance or neutralize, and towel extract until the sticky and tacky phenomenon diminishes. Proceed with Hydrator-3.3 while the leather is still wet and the sticky and tacky problem diminishes.

Step 2 How to work with Hydrator 3.3 and Fatliquor 5.0?

1* Apply Hydrator 3.3 and work with horsehair Brush 1 into the leather and towel extract until the towel shows clean. This deep rinsing with Hydrator 3.3 helps flush out foreign contamination that causes the sticky and tacky problem to improve further. This deep saturation also helps to redistribute the displaced tanning agents to increase the hydrogen bonding between the leather fiber and the tanning agents to preserve the leather from denaturing into sticky and tacky rawhide.

2* Apply Fatliquor 5.0 and work into the leather with the help of brushing while the leather is wet. Allow all the soak-in water content to evaporate as the fatliquor takes its place, leaving only the fat and oil content to remain in the leather structure. This application is repeated until the leather is absorbed no more. Any excess on the surface is rinsed off with Hydrator 3.3 and left for slow natural drying. Before fully dried the leather is flexed or massaged to produce a softer leather.

Step 3 How to work with Protector B?

1* Apply Protector B or the leather scent version Protector B Plus and spread with a foam brush or towel, leave it dry, and is ready to use.

3* How to Restore Sticky and Tacky Leather?

1* What Causes Leather to Become Sticky and Tacky?

The two causes of leather becoming sticky and tacky are the absorbent of body sweat and alkaline cleaners and conditioners. Body sweat, when fermented by the bacteria from the atmosphere shifts alkaline and one sure evidence is from its smell. Almost all sticky situation is compounded by an alkaline cleaner and conditioner.

2* Why Leather Becomes Sticky and Tacky?

Leather is an amphoteric or pH-sensitive protein material, and has a neutral pH value of 3 to 5. Leather derives from the skin of an animal that is then converted into leather with tanning agents. This ionic negative (-ve) tanning agent preserved the ionic positive (+ve) protein fiber by hydrogen bonding. When leather is exposed to aging sweat and alkaline cleaners and conditioners the positively charged fibers shift ionic negative, and the tanning leached out, the leather denatures back to rawhide and becomes sticky and tacky.

3* How to Restore Sticky and Tacky Leather?

Restoring the sticky and tacky leather by neutralizing and pH balancing back to its pH neutral of 3 and 5 with a low pH cleaner and low pH rinse will return the leather to a healthy feel. An absorbent leather will require the combination work of Hydrator 3.3 to work within the leather structure colloidal movement redistributing the tanning agents and flushing out contamination to prevent the leather from reverting into rawhide with sticky and tacky problems.
