Leather Crosslinker 64 by Leather Doctor® is a high-solid hardener designed to strengthen and toughen leather topcoats, particularly those that have become tacky or sticky over time.
- It enhances durability, resistance, and performance while preventing water spotting and recurring stickiness.
Crosslinker 64 Key Benefits:
- Eliminates sticky topcoats – Prevents tackiness and enhances smoothness
- Strengthens topcoat durability – Creates a tougher, long-lasting protective film
- Reduces water sensitivity – Ties up hydrophilic elements to prevent water spotting
- VOC-free formula – High-solid composition without harmful volatile organic compounds
How Crosslinker 64 Works:
When mixed into a water-based urethane topcoat, Crosslinker 64:
- Enhances adhesion and flexibility – Prevents cracking and peeling
- Increases resistance – Reduces damage from friction, wear, and environmental exposure
- Improves overall performance – Ensures a smooth, non-tacky finish for leather surfaces
Ideal Applications:
- Bicast, bycast, and PU-coated leather
- Worn or deteriorating leather topcoats
- Fixing sticky leather finishes caused by body oils, sweat, and cleaning residues
By adding Crosslinker 64 to topcoat refinishing systems, you achieve a resilient, long-lasting finish that resists stickiness, wear, and water damage.
Instruction:
1️⃣ The use by weight ratio is 1: 95.
2️⃣ Add 2.5gm to 8oz of ready to use topcoat.
3️⃣ Add Crosslinker into the Topcoat while stirring to avoid seeding
4️⃣ Stir, swirl or shake well for 2-3 minutes to ensure proper mix.
5️⃣ Allow the mixture to react for a minimum of 30 minutes before using.
6️⃣ This will ensure optimum catalyst reaction time and flow/leveling performance of the coating during brush or airbrushing.
7️⃣ After 48 hours, it is recommended to re-cross-link the top coat.
8️⃣ The mix is transferred to the foam brush and applied in a light circular motion to avoid streaks on the prep surface and blow dry.
9️⃣ Subsequent coatings are applied until the desired gloss is achieved and let overnight dry for curing time.
? Allow at least 48 hours for a complete curing time before use.
1️⃣1️⃣ The average of 3 coatings of 8oz Gloss 76 mix covers approximately 80 square feet.
===
- Room temperature curing: It activates on its own during water evaporation during drying, without requiring high-temperature cooking. [1]
- High density: It offers a very tight molecular mesh, which considerably hardens the top layer of the material. [1]
- Anti -blocking properties : It prevents two treated surfaces from sticking to each other under pressure or heat (e.g., stacked car seats or leather clothing). [1]
- Extreme abrasion resistance: The top film is much more resistant to repeated rubbing, scratching and mechanical wear. [1, 2]
- Chemical barrier and waterproofing: The dense network prevents water, body sweat, sebum, alcohols and harsh cleaners from penetrating and dissolving the color. [1, 2]
- Superior adhesion: It increases the anchoring of the new paint or varnish ( Top Coat ) on substrates that are difficult to adhere to. [1, 2]
- Pot Life : Once the Crosslinker is mixed with your paint or varnish, the chemical reaction begins. You generally have 4 to 10 hours to apply the product. After this time, the mixture will gel or lose its properties and become unusable. [1]
- Sensitivity to humidity: The bottle of pure crosslinking agent must always be tightly closed immediately after use, as it reacts and degrades on contact with atmospheric humidity. [1]
