Product Overview
Antique Leather Dry Rot Treatment Kit AR3, by Leather Doctor, removes alkaline toxicity and hydrates to relax before fat and oil-suppling treatment against dry rot.
Dry rotting results when the leather-softening fat and oil content dries out through evaporation as VOC (volatile organic compound) accelerates when exposed to heat.
The diminishing fat and oil content causes the fibers to dry out, shrink, stiffen, flake, easily exfoliate when rubbed and possibly crack when flexed.
When leather is further exposed to alkaline toxicity from common household cleaning products such as baking soda, dishwashing liquid, and many alkaline leather cleaning products such as saddle soap with a pH above 7 dry rotting side effects accelerate from already dry leather.
Leather is an amphoteric protein material and any solution that is alkaline will weaken its ionic positive (+ve) attraction with its ionic negative (-ve) tanning agent and fat liquor. This causes the leather to be tacky and revert to rawhide and the fat liquor (fat and oil) to break the hydrogen bond and leach out as a spew, resulting in dry rotting.
Further deterioration is prevented by a holistic restoration to remove the alkaline toxicity, neutralize, pH balances, and charge the leather ionic positive (+ve), hydrates to relax and separate the stick-together fiber allowing free colloidal water movement within the structure for an effective ionic negative (-ve) fatliquoring.
This Kit AR3 is bundled with Restorer 1.6 and Acidifier 2.0 modular systems for restoring leather pH chemistry integrity. Hydrator 3.3 and Fatliquor 5.0 modular systems for hydrating and relaxing leather for effective fatliquoring in a sequential wet system. And Protector B for a non-stick, rub-resistant buttery tactile feel conditioning when dry.
Leather Restorer 1.6 by Leather Doctor neutralizes alkaline toxicity and restores ionic hydrogen bonds from leather side effects.
Leather Acidifier 2.0 by Leather Doctor is a pH 2.0 rinse to control, neutralize, and pH-balance leather from denaturing into bleeding, streaking, or getting tacky.
Leather Hydrator 3.3 by Leather Doctor is a pH 3.3 hydrating conditioner to relax and stretch out leather stiffness, creases, and wrinkles before fat liquoring.
Leather Fatliquor 5.0 by Leather Doctor is an emulsion of fat and oil softener for all leather, suede, hide, and skin against dryness, stiffness, dry rot and cracking.
Leather Protector B by Leather Doctor is a non-film-forming, non-stick, rub-resistant conditioner that cuts friction noise and imparts a soft buttery feel on smooth leather.
Instruction:
1: Restorative Cleaning and pH Balancing system:
1.1: Restore 1.6 concentrate is mixed with distilled water 1: 12 before use.
1.2: Restorer 1.6 is applied to the entire surface and gently brush with a detailing horsehair brush, and towel extract until it shows clean.
1.3: Acidifier 2.0 concentrate is mixed with distilled water 1: 25 before use.
1.4: Acidifier 2.0 is applied to saturate and rinse with gently brushing to the entire surface and towel extract until towel shows clean.
1.5: Inspect with finger testings for a healthy squeaky feel, otherwise repeat for a complete pH balancing effect and continue with hydrating.
2: Hydrating and Fatliquoring system:
2.1: Hydrator 3.3 concentrate is mixed with distilled water 1: 25 before use.
2.2: Hydrator 3.3 is applied to penetrate and dwell to relax the leather structure with gentle brushing and suspended residue is towel extracted until towel shows clean.
2.3: Inspect for surface even absorption without blotchiness or surface tension before fatliquoring.
2.4: Fatliquor 5.0 concentrate is mixed with distilled water 1: 5 before use.
2.5: Fatliquor 5.0 is applied, brush to penetrate evenly and allow the water content to evaporate before the next application.
2.6: Continuous application each cycle the water content evaporates until the leather absorb no more.
2.7: Any surface remnants is removed with Hydrator 3.3 to a healthy squeaky feel.
2.8: Any tacky feel is further rectify by rinsing with Acidifier 2.0 to a healthy squeaky feel.
2.9: The leather is left to dry naturally.
2.10: Flexing and massaging before completely dry produces a more supple leather.
3: Conditioning:
3.1: Protector B concentrate is mixed with distilled water 1: 19 before use.
