Product Overview
Vachetta Leather pH Balanced Cleaner 1.2 by Leather Doctor® is a Specialty Cleaner for Veg-Tan & Vachetta Leathers to remove the common blotchy browning water stains.
What is Vachetta 1.2? Vachetta 1.2 is a low-pH (1.2) specialty cleaner formulated to balance pH, clean, rectify, and restore vegetable-tanned leathers—especially Vachetta, Bridle, and King Ranch. It is uniquely designed to address common blotchy browning stains caused by sweat, watermarks, and alkaline cleaning products, which are particularly problematic on naked, unfinished leathers.
How Does Vachetta 1.2 Work? Vachetta 1.2 works by gently emulsifying general soiling through penetration, lubrication, and suspension, allowing the contaminants to be extracted with a clean towel. It restores leather to a more uniform appearance without harshness.
Which Degreasing Product Works with Vachetta 1.2? For deeply penetrated body oil and grease stains, use Degreaser 2.2 first, followed by a towel extraction. Vachetta 1.2 should then be applied to continue cleaning over the degreased area and extend evenly across the panel—ensuring no dry edges.
Holistic Leather Softening System (to Prevent Cracking) To prevent leather from drying and cracking after cleaning:
- Clean with Vachetta 1.2
- Rinse with Acidifier 2.0
- Hydrate with Hydrator 3.3
- Fat and Oil Recondition with Fatliquor 5.0
Important:
- Maintain a minimum 25% moisture level between each step.
- Allow complete drying only after Fatliquor 5.0 is absorbed.
- Dry fatliquor content should be at 14%—use a leather moisture meter to verify.
- Drying prematurely without enough fat and oil content increases the risk of cracks.
How to Further Treat Browning Discoloration? To brighten and correct sun-tanning effects, follow with Vachetta 2.8 Redox. This oxidation-reduction treatment further lightens and evens out color.
Instruction:
- Dilute 1:19 with distilled water.
- Remove any dry soil before application.
- Test clean a hidden spot using a cotton swab; evaluate when dry.
- Apply generously using a horsehair Brush 1 for even saturation—avoid dry edges.
- Towel extract until the area appears clean.
- Repeat if necessary, allowing 3–30 minutes dwell time without letting the area dry in between.
- Continue with the holistic system as needed.

1. What is Vachetta Leather?
Vachetta leather is vegetable-tanned, also known as saddlery, bridle, equestrian, craft, or tooling leather, and can be found in bags, boots, wallets, and furniture.
2. Why do Vachetta Leather become Browns?
When new, Vachetta has a pale biscuit color. When exposed to sunlight and UV light, natural vegetable tannins take on a suntan color, just like our pale skin under sunlight.
3. Why Vachetta Leather Develop Water Spotting?
Vachetta is pH sensitive and develops water-spotting like a litmus paper changes color. Even clean liquid with a pH of 7 will make the tanning color fugitive and move out to the ring edge.
4. How to Remove Water Spotting?
Water spotting develops from any clear liquid with a pH above 7. Even clean tap water or rainwater will spot this pH-sensitive Vachetta. Water spotting removal is cleaned with Vachetta 1.2 and rinsed with Acidifier 2.0.
5.What is the Sequence of Leather Wet Cleaning Processes?
A leather wet cleaning process is a continuous process where the leather is constantly kept at the lowest moisture level of about 25%. This minimum moisture level is important for the leather to retain before the final fatliquoring process with Fatliquor 5.0. Otherwise, existing cracks will accelerate, accentuate, or magnify. The optimum fatliquor (fat and oil) moisture level should reach 14% when dry to avoid the ill effect of drying without sufficient fatliquor. Fast drying will stiffen the leather, and slow natural drying will produce softer leather.
6. How to Work in Sequence with Hydrator 3.3?
When almost dry at 25%, continue with Hydrator 3.3 to an even appearance and towel extract.
7. How to Work in Sequence with Fatliquor 5.0?
Before Hydrator-3.3 dries to 25%, proceed with Fatliquor 5.0 with a continuous round until fully saturated.
