Fix 2.6 – Leather Dye Fixative for Improved Color Fastness

  • Permanently Stabilize Loose Dyestuff for Longer-Lasting Color

Leather Doctor® Saddlery Aniline Fix 2.6 (Fix 2.6) is a professional cationic leather dye fixative engineered to stabilize loose dyestuff after leather dyeing or color restoration. By strengthening the attraction between the leather fibers and the remaining unstable dye, Fix 2.6 improves color fastness while reducing dry crocking and wet dye bleeding.

  • Used immediately after Dye 42, Fix 2.6 helps lock restored color into the leather before the restoration process continues with Hydrator 3.3 and Fatliquor 5.0.

Why Use Fix 2.6?

  • Even after successful leather dyeing, a small amount of dyestuff may remain only weakly attached.
  • Without proper fixation, this loose dyestuff can transfer to clothing, hands, or cleaning cloths during normal use.
  • Fix 2.6 helps stabilize these remaining dye particles, producing a cleaner, more durable restoration with improved color permanence.

Key Benefits

  • Improves leather color fastness.
  • Reduces dry crocking.
  • Reduces wet dye bleeding.
  • Stabilizes loose dyestuff after dyeing.
  • Works with Dye 42 as part of the Leather Doctor® restoration system.
  • Helps preserve restored color during normal use.
  • Suitable for aniline, nubuck, suede, and other aniline leather types.

How Fix 2.6 Works

  • Fix 2.6 uses a cationic fixing system that assists the remaining loose dyestuff after excess surface dye has been removed.
  • Working together with Acidifier 2.0, it strengthens the ionic attraction between the leather fibers and the dyestuff.
  • The result is improved color fastness with reduced crocking when dry and reduced dye bleeding when wet.

Recommended Restoration Sequence

For best results, use Fix 2.6 as part of the complete Leather Doctor® wet restoration system:

  1. Prepare and clean the leather.
  2. Restore color with Dye 42.
  3. Remove excess surface dyestuff using a damp white towel.
  4. Apply Acidifier 2.0.
  5. Apply Fix 2.6.
  6. Relax the leather with Hydrator 3.3.
  7. Replenish the diminishing fat and oil with Fatliquor 5.0.
  8. Finish with the appropriate protective system if required.

Ideal For

Fix 2.6 is recommended whenever leather has been:

  • Dyed with Dye 42.
  • Professionally color restored.
  • Experiencing dry crocking.
  • Experiencing wet dye bleeding.
  • Showing unstable dye transfer after restoration.

Professional Tip

  • Fix 2.6 is not intended to fix excess surface dye.
  • Always remove excess dyestuff with a damp white towel before applying Fix 2.6.
  • This allows the fixative to stabilize only the remaining loose dyestuff that belongs within the leather structure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Fix 2.6 stop dye rubbing off completely?

  • Fix 2.6 significantly improves color fastness by stabilizing loose dyestuff. However, it cannot permanently secure excess surface dye that should first be removed during the damp towel inspection step.

Can Fix 2.6 be used without Dye 42?

  • Fix 2.6 is engineered to work as part of the Leather Doctor® restoration system. It performs best after Dye 42 or other compatible leather dye restoration processes.

Why does Hydrator 3.3 follow Fix 2.6?

  • After Fix 2.6 has completed its function, Hydrator 3.3 facilitates colloidal water movement to flush away residual chemistry, relax the leather fiber structure, and prepare it for replenishment with Fatliquor 5.0.
