Why Does Fix 2.6 Exist?
Leather dyes are designed to bond with the leather fiber structure. However, no dyeing process is ever 100% efficient. After dyeing or color restoration, some dyestuff may remain weakly attached or completely unattached.
These unstable dye particles may later transfer onto clothing, hands, or cleaning cloths through rubbing or moisture during normal use. This is commonly known as crocking when dry or dye bleeding when wet.
Fix 2.6 exists to permanently stabilize these remaining dye particles, improving color fastness while reducing future color transfer.
What Problem Does Fix 2.6 Solve?
When leather continues to release color after dyeing, the problem is usually not the dye itself—it is the portion of dyestuff that never became securely attached to the leather.
This unstable dyestuff may appear as:

Fix 2.6 secures the color.
Its purpose is to stabilize the remaining loose dyestuff, so it becomes more resistant to rubbing, moisture, cleaning, and normal use.

What Is Loose Dyestuff?
Loose dyestuff consists of dye molecules that have entered the leather but remain only weakly attached.
They may be held temporarily by residual moisture, capillary action, or weak physical attraction rather than by a stable ionic bond.
Although they contribute to the leather's color, they can still be released through rubbing or repeated cleaning.
Fix 2.6 is designed to stabilize these remaining dye particles.
What Is Excess Dyestuff?
Excess dyestuff is different.
It is dye that never became part of the leather structure.
Instead, it remains as surplus residue on or near the surface after dyeing.
Because it serves no useful purpose, it should be removed before Fix 2.6 is applied.
Attempting to fix excess surface dye may unnecessarily increase surface color loading instead of improving dye stability.
Why Is the Wet White Towel Used?
After Dye 42 has dried, the leather is wiped with a clean white towel dampened with water.
This is much more than a simple wiping step.
It serves two important purposes.
First, it removes excess dyestuff that never became part of the leather.
Second, the white towel becomes an inspection tool.
The amount of color transferred onto the towel helps determine whether unstable dyestuff still remains.
Only after the unnecessary excess has been removed should Fix 2.6 be applied.
Why Does Acidifier 2.0 Help?
Leather is an amphoteric material whose electrical charge changes with pH.
Acidifier 2.0 restores the leather to its preferred acidic condition, helping the collagen fibers regain their positive ionic attraction.
Fix 2.6 works differently. It assists the remaining dyestuff by enhancing its ability to participate in ionic attraction.
Acidifier 2.0 works on the leather. Fix 2.6 works on the dyestuff. Together they strengthen the ionic attraction between the leather fibers and the dyestuff, increasing color fastness while reducing crocking and bleeding.
How Does the Cationic Fix 2.6 Work?
Fix 2.6 contains cationic fixing agents carrying a positive ionic charge.
Many leather dyes contain negatively charged dye molecules.
When Fix 2.6 is introduced, these opposite charges attract one another.
The fixing agent associates with the remaining unstable dye particles, forming larger, more stable dye complexes that are less likely to migrate or transfer during normal use.
The result is improved color fastness with reduced crocking when dry and dye bleeding when wet.
Why Does Hydrator 3.3 Follow Afterwards?
Once Fix 2.6 has completed its function, the leather enters the next stage of restoration.
Hydrator 3.3 facilitates colloidal water movement throughout the leather structure.
As water moves through the collagen fiber network, it helps flush away foreign residues that have completed their purpose while leaving the stabilized dye behind.
At the same time, Hydrator 3.3 relaxes the leather fiber structure, preparing it for replenishment.
This creates the ideal condition for Fatliquor 5.0 to replenish the diminishing fat and oil throughout the leather.
Hydrator 3.3 does not replenish the leather. It prepares the leather to be replenished.
