Saddlery Mold Cleaner 1.5 (Mold 1.5) by Leather Doctor®

  • Professional Leather-Safe™ pH 1.5 Mold Cleaner for Horse Saddles & Tack
  • Remove the Growth. Prepare for Control.™
  • Mold must first be removed before it can be effectively controlled.

Saddlery Mold Cleaner 1.5 by Leather Doctor® is a professional Leather-Safe™ pH 1.5 mold cleaner formulated to safely remove visible mold growth from saddles, bridles, reins, breastplates, harnesses, and other equestrian leather while preparing the leather for restoration and long-term mold control.

  • It removes mold colonies without damaging the leather structure, allowing subsequent restoration products to perform effectively.

 Why Choose Mold Cleaner 1.5?

  • Visible mold is only part of the problem.
  • Mold colonies feed on organic contamination such as body oils, saddle soap residues, conditioners, dust, perspiration, and environmental debris.
  • Removing the visible mold is the essential first step before restoration and long-term protection can begin.

 What Mold Cleaner 1.5 Does

Core Function

  • Safely removes visible mold growth from leather.

Deeper Function

  • Mold colonies attach themselves to contamination residing on and within leather.
  • Mold Cleaner 1.5 loosens and removes these colonies while preserving the leather's natural structure and finish.
  • Its Leather-Safe™ acidic pH also helps create an environment less favorable to immediate mold activity.

 Benefits

✓ Removes visible mold growth
✓ Cleans white, green, and black mold colonies
✓ Leather-Safe™ pH 1.5 formula
✓ Helps discourage immediate mold activity
✓ Preserves leather structure
✓ Prepares leather for restoration
✓ Compatible with the Leather Doctor® Core System™

 Understanding Mold Damage

  • Removing mold is not the same as repairing mold damage.
  • When mold remains on leather for an extended period, fungal activity can permanently damage the leather grain by digesting collagen fibers.
  • This may leave:
✓ Sunken pits
✓ Surface craters
✓ Grain erosion
✓ Permanent texture loss
✓ Finish deterioration
  • These are physical defects, not active mold.
  • Neither Mold Cleaner 1.5 nor Mold Odor Killer 3.6 can replace leather fibers that have already been lost.
  • Once the leather has been cleaned and biologically stabilized, these defects require physical repair, grain reconstruction, or refinishing when appearance restoration is desired.

 Leather Doctor® Principle

Chemistry removes contamination.
Repair restores structure.
  • Mold Cleaner 1.5 removes mold growth.
  • Mold Odor Killer 3.6 neutralizes remaining biological activity.
  • Physical leather damage must be repaired separately after restoration.

 Leather Doctor® Specialty System™

  • Mold Cleaner 1.5 belongs to the Specialty System™.
  • After mold removal, continue with the Leather Doctor® Core System™.

 Important Distinction

Mold Growth

✓ Can be removed.
✓ Can be neutralized.
✓ Can be managed to reduce recurrence.

Mold Damage

✗ Cannot be cleaned away.
✗ Cannot be chemically repaired.
✓ Requires physical repair or refinishing after the leather has been restored.

Understanding this distinction helps set realistic expectations and ensures the correct restoration sequence is followed.

 When To Use

Use when leather shows:

✓ White mold
✓ Green mold
✓ Black mold
✓ Surface fungal colonies
✓ Mold after storage
✓ Mildew contamination odor

 Advanced Restoration (Recommended)

  • Heavy accumulations of saddle soap, traditional stuffing oils, conditioners, body oils, and environmental contamination can become an ongoing food source for mold, especially around stitching, tooling, seams, and deep creases.
  • When these conditions are present, continue with:

Degreaser 2.2 → Rinse 3.0

  • before proceeding with restoration.
  • Reducing the mold's food source significantly improves long-term stability.

 Learn the Leather Doctor® Systems™

Professional leather restoration combines two complementary systems.

Leather Doctor® Specialty System™

Condition-specific products that solve diagnosed problems, such as mold contamination, before restoration begins.

Leather Doctor® Core System™

        Clean → Rinse → Correct → Relax → Replenish → Refine & Preserve

After restoration, evaluate the leather for permanent structural damage. If mold has left pits, grain erosion, or finish loss, these areas require physical repair or refinishing before applying the final protective treatment.

 Leather Doctor® Philosophy

  • Remove the Growth. Restore the Leather. Preserve the Future.™
  • Successful mold restoration is more than removing visible mold.
  • It means eliminating contamination, restoring leather balance, recognizing when physical repair is required, and preserve the leather against future mold growth through the complete Leather Doctor® restoration system.
