Auto Leather Rinse 5.0

  • Formulated Rinse for Removing Suspended Soil, Oil, and Working Surfactant
  • Complete the cleaning process.
  • Remove what the cleaner has released.
  • Stabilize the finished surface before conditioning.

Leather Doctor® Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 is a professionally formulated, mildly acidic rinse developed specifically for modern finished automotive leather and smooth synthetic interior surfaces.

It is the essential Step 2 following either Auto Leather Foam Cleaner 6.5 for routine cleaning or Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 for intensive oily or sticky contamination.

Its purpose is not simply to adjust the pH of water.

Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 is formulated to help remove:
  • Suspended soil
  • Emulsified oils and grease
  • Body-oil residue
  • Residual conditioner contamination
  • Working surfactant
  • Other removable cleaning chemistry

from the treated surface.

Its controlled target pH of 5.0 helps bring the finished surface toward the intended post-cleaning condition while helping minimize unwanted sticky, tacky, coated, or greasy residue.

  • The Cleaner Releases. The Rinse Removes.

A cleaner and a rinse perform different functions.

  • Cleaner — Release

The preceding cleaner or degreaser loosens, emulsifies, and suspends unwanted contamination.

  • Rinse — Remove & Stabilize

Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 helps remove the contamination and working chemistry remaining after the cleaning stage while helping stabilize the finished surface for the final conditioning step.

  • This is why a formulated rinse is different from simply wiping with water.
  • A rinse is not just pH-adjusted water.
  • It is the removal and preparation stage of the cleaning system.

Why Auto Leather Rinse 5.0?

Target pH 5.0

Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 is calibrated to a mildly acidic pH 5.0 for its intended role within the Auto Leather system.

The pH target is part of the formulation, but it is not the sole purpose of the product.

Removes Working Surfactant

During cleaning, surfactants help loosen and suspend contamination.

Those working surfactants must subsequently be removed.

Incomplete removal may leave behind a residue that contributes to an undesirable:

  • Sticky feel
  • Tacky feel
  • Coated sensation
  • Greasy surface feel

Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 is formulated as part of the removal process to help minimize these problems.

Removes Suspended Contamination

After cleaning or degreasing, the surface may contain suspended:

  • Oil
  • Grease
  • Body-oil residue
  • Conditioner residue
  • Soil
  • Other released contamination

The rinse helps carry this material away from the treated surface.

Helps Stabilize the Finished Surface

After the working chemistry has been removed, the treated surface needs to be left in a clean and controlled condition before the final conditioning step.

Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 helps stabilize the finished automotive surface after cleaning and prepare it for Auto Leather Conditioner 6.0.

Clean Surface Without Unnecessary Residue

The objective is not simply to make the leather wet again.

The objective is to remove the working chemistry and suspended contamination so the surface can dry cleanly, be properly assessed, and receive the appropriate finishing treatment.

Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 — Step 2 of the Auto Leather System

Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 is the shared Step 2 used after either of the two Step 1 pathways.

STEP 1A — Auto Leather Foam Cleaner 6.5

Routine Cleaning & Maintenance

Designed to remove everyday:

  • Dust
  • Sweat
  • Fingerprints
  • Light body oils
  • General surface soil

STEP 1B — Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5

Intensive Oily/Sticking Contamination

Designed for predominantly non-absorbent finished automotive leather where accumulated:

  • Conditioners
  • Sebum
  • Body oils
  • Grease
  • Sweat residue
  • Oily care-product residue

have overloaded the surface.

The Degreaser loosens, emulsifies, and suspends the contamination.

STEP 2 — Auto Leather Rinse 5.0

Remove Suspended Contamination & Working Chemistry

The rinse then helps remove the suspended contamination and working surfactant from the preceding cleaning treatment while preparing the finished surface for the final conditioning step.

STEP 3 — Auto Leather Conditioner 6.0

Feel Enhancement & Maintenance Finish

Once the surface has been rinsed and dried, Auto Leather Conditioner 6.0 can be applied when conditioning and surface-feel enhancement are appropriate.

Complete Auto Leather Sequence

Routine Maintenance:

Auto Leather Foam Cleaner 6.5 → Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 → Auto Leather Conditioner 6.0

Intensive Correction:

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 → Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 → Auto Leather Conditioner 6.0

When additional restoration, repair, or refinishing is required, those are separate treatment decisions based on the condition revealed after drying.

Why Not Just Use Water?

Water can dilute and physically wipe away some surface material, but it is not equivalent to a purpose-formulated rinse.

After a cleaning or degreasing treatment, the surface may still contain a mixture of:

  • Suspended oils
  • Soil
  • Emulsified contamination
  • Residual surfactant
  • Other working chemistry

Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 is formulated to assist in removing this material as part of the complete cleaning process.

Dilution is not the same as removal.

A Rinse Is Not a Conditioner

  • Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 is not primarily a leather conditioner.

Its role is to:

Remove → Stabilize → Prepare

After:

Clean or Degrease → Rinse → Dry → Inspect

the surface can then be evaluated for its actual condition.

If the interior requires:

  • Rejuvenation
  • Softening
  • Conditioning
  • Repair
  • Refinishing

those are separate treatment decisions.

Clean first. Diagnose second. Condition only when needed.

When to Use Auto Leather Rinse 5.0

  • Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 is appropriate as a formulated rinse after compatible automotive leather cleaning or degreasing treatments where removal of suspended contamination and working surfactant is required.

It is especially important after:

Auto Leather Foam Cleaner 6.5

and

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5

because it forms the shared Step 2 of both Auto Leather treatment pathways.

Surface Condition Determines the Cleaning Pathway

The Auto Leather system is designed around the leather's present surface behavior and contamination condition.

Routine Maintenance

Auto Leather Foam Cleaner 6.5 → Auto Leather Rinse 5.0

For everyday cleaning of predominantly non-absorbent finished automotive leather and compatible smooth synthetic surfaces.

Intensive Oily or Sticky Contamination

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 → Auto Leather Rinse 5.0

For accumulated body oils, grease, conditioner residue, and persistent oily or sticky surface contamination.

Other Leather Restoration Systems

For leather that falls outside the intended Auto Leather pathway, select the appropriate Leather Doctor degreasing and rinsing system according to the leather's present condition.

Leather Degreaser 4.4 → Leather Rinse 4.4

For leather requiring the Leather-Safe Zone 4.4 degreasing system.

Vachetta Degreaser 4.5 → Vachetta Rinse 4.5

For vegetable-tanned Vachetta with tannin-related darkening and contamination.

Degreaser 2.2 → Rinse 3.0

For appropriate absorbent leather conditions involving deeper sweat, body-oil, or alkaline-related contamination.

Acidifier 2.0

A separate pH-correction treatment when specifically indicated.

Choose the treatment pathway according to the leather's present surface behavior, not simply its name.

What Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 Does Not Do

Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 is not intended to:

  • Repair cracking
  • Restore abrasion
  • Replace missing finish
  • Restore permanently polished leather
  • Reverse structural deterioration
  • Act as a complete conditioning treatment

Its purpose is to complete the removal and surface-preparation stage of the Auto Leather cleaning system.

After Rinsing

Allow the surface to dry naturally before making the next treatment decision.

Once dry

  • Inspect the surface.
  • Evaluate the hand feel.
  • Recheck absorbency where appropriate.
  • Determine what the interior actually needs.

Do not automatically apply conditioner simply because a cleaning treatment has been performed.

A properly rinsed and dried surface provides a cleaner basis for the next diagnostic decision.

The Leather Doctor Approach

Restore the Leather. Refine the Surface.

Leather care is not simply a matter of applying more cleaning product.

A controlled treatment begins by understanding what is being removed and what must remain.

The Cleaner releases the contamination.
The Rinse removes the contamination and working chemistry.
Drying reveals the actual surface condition.
Inspection determines the next treatment.

Release. Remove. Stabilize. Dry. Inspect. Then restore what the surface actually needs.

Mix Before Use

With Distilled Water — Ratio 1:24

  • 4 oz bottle — Add 109 g distilled water
  • 8 oz bottle — Add 218 g distilled water
  • 16 oz bottle — Add 436 g distilled water
  • 32 oz bottle — Add 872 g distilled water

Perfect finishing step prior to conditioning

Posted by Dylan on 1st Oct 2026

It does exactly what it says on the bottle! I was dealing with "sticky" leather in my vehicle, and Degreaser 7.5 followed by Rinse 5.0 (as suggested by Leather Doctor) were finally able to restore the OEM feel and finish. Absolutely amazing
