Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5

  • Intensive Surface Degreasing for Predominantly Non-Absorbent Finished Automotive Leather
  • Remove accumulated conditioners, sebum, body oil, grease, and oily residue from the finished surface — with controlled gel application.

Leather Doctor® Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 is a professional-grade, pH-targeted gel degreaser designed for predominantly non-absorbent finished automotive leather where conditioners, body oils, grease, and oily care-product residues have accumulated on the surface.

Its controlled alkaline pH of 7.5 contributes to degreasing efficiency without relying solely on increased surfactant strength.

The gel format allows the working chemistry to remain localized, helping prevent unnecessary spreading into perforations, ventilation holes, seams, stitching, and adjacent areas.

Typical results of surface contamination include leather that appears:

  • Darkened
  • Greasy
  • Sticky or tacky
  • Over-conditioned
  • Artificially shiny
  • Heavy or overloaded to the touch

The objective is simple:

  • Target the contamination.
  • Emulsify the oily residue.
  • Extract the contamination.
  • Rinse away the working chemistry.

Designed for Non-Absorbent Finished Automotive Leather

Modern automotive leather with a preserved topcoat can accumulate conditioners, body oils, grease, and other residues primarily at the surface.

Typical high-contact areas include:

  • Headrests
  • Seat backs
  • Seat bolsters
  • Center armrests
  • Door armrests and panels
  • Steering wheels
  • Gear selectors and controls

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 is intended for predominantly non-absorbent finished automotive leather, including heavily finished pigmented leather and other topcoat-protected surfaces.

Some automotive leathers described as Nappa may be substantially more absorbent or semi-absorbent than heavily pigmented finished leather. In those cases, the leather's present surface behavior, rather than the name Nappa alone, should determine the appropriate degreasing pathway.

Always test the present absorbency and finish condition before full application.

Why Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5?

pH-Targeted Degreasing — pH 7.5

The controlled alkaline pH assists with the removal of oily contamination from finished automotive leather while avoiding the need to obtain all of the degreasing power by simply increasing surfactant strength.

This is important because greater surfactant strength can also increase the amount of working chemistry that must subsequently be removed.

Surface Sebum & Oil Extraction

Targets accumulated:

  • Sebum
  • Body oil
  • Sweat residue
  • Grease
  • Sunscreen and cosmetic residue
  • Conditioner buildup
  • Balm and wax residue
  • Other oily surface contamination

Controlled Gel Application

The gel texture allows the product to be concentrated where contamination is present rather than behaving like a free-flowing liquid.

This makes controlled application particularly useful around:

  • Perforations
  • Ventilation holes
  • Stitching
  • Seams
  • Headrests
  • Armrests
  • Seat bolsters
  • Steering wheels

Helps Reveal the Clean Original Surface

When excessive shine or darkening is caused by accumulated oil, grease, or product residue, removing that contamination can help reveal the leather's underlying clean appearance.

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 does not repair permanent finish wear, polishing, abrasion, finish loss, cracking, or other physical changes in the leather.

Efficient Surfactant Strategy

The formulation uses a synergized surfactant system to help loosen, emulsify, and suspend oily contamination.

The objective is not maximum surfactant strength.

Effective degreasing requires both extraction and removal of the working chemistry.

Aerosol-Free

A controlled liquid-gel formulation designed for precise application during professional automotive restoration, detailing, and careful leather care.

Why a Gel Instead of a Conventional Liquid Degreaser?

Targeted Cleaning. Controlled Application.

A conventional liquid cleaner may spread rapidly across a smooth finished automotive surface.

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 is formulated as a controlled gel so a measured amount can be applied directly to the working tool and concentrated on the contaminated area.

The controlled gel texture allows precise application around perforations, ventilated seats, stitching, seams, and other areas where excessive product spreading should be avoided.

Do not flood the leather.

Apply only enough product to loosen and emulsify the contamination, then extract it with a clean towel.

What Does Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 Target?

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 is designed for surface-associated oily contamination, including:

  • Sebum
  • Body oil
  • Greasy fingerprints
  • Hair and scalp oils
  • Sweat residue
  • Sunscreen and cosmetic residue
  • Excessive leather-care products
  • Aged conditioner buildup
  • Balm and wax residue
  • Grease
  • Oily surface films
  • Darkened high-contact areas
  • Sticky or greasy surface residue

The product is intended for contamination removal, not for repairing damaged leather.

The Auto Leather Degreasing Module

Degrease → Rinse → Dry → Inspect

Leather Doctor treats intensive automotive degreasing as a two-stage extraction-and-removal process.

Step 1B — Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5

Target & Extract

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 loosens, emulsifies, and suspends accumulated oils, conditioners, grease, and associated soil.

The controlled gel format allows precise application, while the pH-targeted formulation assists with surface degreasing.

Step 2 — Auto Leather Rinse 5.0

Remove Suspended Contamination & Working Chemistry

Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 is a purpose-formulated rinse, not simply distilled water adjusted to pH.

It is designed to help remove:

  • Suspended oily contamination
  • Suspended soil
  • Residual working surfactant
  • Other removable chemistry from the preceding treatment

Its target pH of 5.0 helps bring the treated surface toward the intended post-degreasing condition.

Complete Intensive Module

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 → Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 → Dry → Inspect

After the surface has dried, determine whether Auto Leather Conditioner 6.0 or another treatment is actually required.

This separates three different functions:

  • Degreasing removes contamination.
  • Rinsing removes the working chemistry.
  • Conditioning addresses the actual condition of the leather.

Do not replace the formulated Rinse with plain water when the complete degreasing module is required.

Why Not Simply Use More Surfactant?

Increasing surfactant strength is not necessarily the same as improving degreasing performance.

Higher surfactant loading can increase the amount of working chemistry that remains to be removed after extraction.

If that chemistry is not adequately rinsed away, residue may contribute to an undesirable:

  • Sticky feel
  • Tacky surface
  • Greasy sensation
  • Coated appearance

Leather Doctor therefore uses a coordinated:

Degreaser → Rinse

approach.

The Degreaser suspends the contamination. The Rinse removes what has been suspended — including the working surfactant.

When Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 Fits the Auto Leather System

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 is intended primarily for predominantly non-absorbent finished automotive leather where the contamination is principally associated with the surface.

This includes suitable:

  • Automotive finished leather
  • Pigmented automotive leather
  • Topcoat-protected automotive leather
  • Other non-absorbent finished automotive leather with accumulated conditioners or surface oils

It is not selected simply because a leather is called Nappa.

A Nappa leather may be semi-absorbent or absorbent depending on its finish and present condition. Perforations, wear, finish loss, and other changes can also create localized absorbent behavior.

Choose the degreasing pathway according to the leather's present surface behavior — not solely according to the leather's name.

Routine Cleaning vs. Intensive Degreasing

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 is the intensive Step 1B of the Auto Leather system.

STEP 1A — Auto Leather Foam Cleaner 6.5

For routine removal of everyday:

  • Dust
  • Sweat
  • Fingerprints
  • Light body oils
  • General surface soil

STEP 1B — Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5

For accumulated:

  • Body oils
  • Sebum
  • Grease
  • Conditioner buildup
  • Oily care-product residue
  • Persistent sticky or tacky contamination

Both pathways continue to:

STEP 2 — Auto Leather Rinse 5.0

followed, when appropriate, by:

STEP 3 — Auto Leather Conditioner 6.0

This distinction helps prevent unnecessary intensive degreasing when routine cleaning is all that is required.

When Another Degreasing System May Be More Appropriate

Leather Doctor uses different degreasing pathways for different leather conditions.

Predominantly non-absorbent finished automotive leather

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 → Auto Leather Rinse 5.0

Semi-absorbent, absorbent, or non-absorbent leather that has become absorbent

Leather Degreaser 4.4 → Leather Rinse 4.4

Vegetable-tanned Vachetta with tannin-related darkening

Vachetta Degreaser 4.5 → Vachetta Rinse 4.5

Contaminated absorbent leather with deeper sweat/body-oil and alkaline-related symptoms

Degreaser 2.2 → Rinse 3.0

Separate pH correction when indicated

Acidifier 2.0

This distinction prevents the mistake of treating every oily leather condition as the same degreasing problem.

Surface Degreasing Does Not Mean Surface Stripping

The objective is to remove unwanted contamination, not to unnecessarily strip the leather.

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 should therefore be used with controlled application, appropriate dwell/work time, clean extraction towels, and the matched Auto Leather Rinse 5.0.

Avoid excessive moisture and do not flood:

  • Perforations
  • Ventilation holes
  • Seams
  • Stitching
  • Open edges
  • Areas with known finish damage

Always perform an inconspicuous test first.

After Degreasing: Inspect Before Conditioning

Degreasing should not automatically be followed by conditioning simply because the leather has been cleaned.

First:

  • Degrease.
  • Rinse.
  • Dry.
  • Inspect.

Then determine whether the leather actually requires conditioning or another restoration step.

A clean surface may reveal a different underlying condition, such as:

  • Dryness
  • Stiffness
  • Finish wear
  • Abrasion
  • Fading
  • Cracking
  • Finish loss
  • Structural deterioration

Remove the contamination first. Diagnose the leather second.

The Leather Doctor Approach

Restore the Leather. Refine the Surface.

A dark, shiny, or sticky finished automotive leather surface does not automatically require refinishing.

First determine whether the appearance is caused by:

Sebum
Body oil
Grease
Conditioner buildup
Surface residue
Friction
Or actual finish wear

Auto Leather Degreaser 7.5 addresses the surface contamination layer.

Auto Leather Rinse 5.0 removes the suspended contamination and working chemistry.

Only after the leather has been cleaned, rinsed, dried, and inspected should the next treatment be selected.

  • Target the contamination.
  • Extract the residue.
  • Rinse away the working chemistry.
  • Dry and inspect.
  • Then restore what the leather actually needs.

The ONLY product that corrected sticky nappa leather

Posted by Dylan on 1st Oct 2026

The Windsor leather in my Land Rover had a persistent issue with tackiness and stickiness that both local restoration experts and “prosumer” products could not correct. Thankfully, I came across Leather Doctor and was recommended a combination of Degreaser 7.5 + Soft Rinse 5.0. Very easy to apply, and the outcome—perfection, finally! Thanks, Leather Doctor.
