8-Step Professional Restoration Protocol

1️⃣ Lining Seam Opening (If Required)

Only required when reversing dimensional shrinkage.

2️⃣ Suede Side Hydration – Structural Relaxation

Product: Leather Hydrating Conditioner 3.3

“Saturate to mild finger-press oozing” means:

✅ Moist but not dripping

✅ No pooling

Cycle 1
✅ Apply 2–3 inches beyond shrink zone
✅ Plastic tent wrap (not airtight)
✅ 8–12 hours dwell

Cycle 2
✅ Reapply to same saturation level
✅ Begin controlled stretching toward original dimensions
✅ Monitor panel symmetry

Purpose:
Restore hydrogen-bond moisture before oil stabilization.
Without fatliquor, shrinkage will return after evaporation.

3️⃣ Suede Side Fatliquoring – Dimensional Stabilization

Product: Leather Fatliquoring Conditioner 5.0

Fatliquor = ~80% water carrier + ~20% oil solids.

As water evaporates, oil remains bonded via:

✅ Hydrogen bonding
✅ Mechanical fiber interlocking

Cycle 1
✅ Apply to same saturation level
✅ Cover 6–8 hrs
✅ Remove plastic, slow dry

Cycle 2
✅ Repeat

✅ Allow 12–24 hrs full dry

Result:

Shrink recovery depends on:

6️⃣ Mechanical Texture Encouragement

No steam.
No uncontrolled heat.

Recommended Methods:

Grain rebound is partial if permanently heat plate-compressed.

Texture-Specific Options

Different leathers respond differently.

Option A – Pebbled / Goatskin / Pronounced Grain

✅ Texture returns via fiber loft recovery

Option B – Fine Lambskin / Smooth Nappa / Minimal Grain
