Fatliquor 5.0 is a Leather-Safe™ pH 5.0 anionic emulsion of fat, oil, and water formulated to replenish leather's internal fat and oil system for fullness and lubrication, imparting suppleness and resilience.

• Fatliquoring is the process.
• Fatliquor 5.0 is the formulation.

 It is designed to restore what leather gradually loses through use, aging, environmental exposure, and previous cleaning or restoration.

 What Fatliquor 5.0 Does

Leather is a collagen protein fiber structure that depends on an internal balance of fat and oil for continued movement and performance.

• Fat provides fullness.
• Oil provides lubrication.

 Fatliquor 5.0 replenishes this internal system.

 It helps leather regain:

• fullness,
• suppleness,
• flexibility,
• lubrication,
• and resilience.

When leather becomes depleted, it can become dry, stiff, flat, less flexible, and increasingly resistant to movement.
Fatliquor 5.0 is designed to replenish the internal condition before the leather is further refined at the surface.

 Why Fatliquor 5.0 Is Different

• Fatliquor 5.0 is not simply an oil dressing.
• It is formulated as an ionic negative (-ve) charged emulsion at pH 5.0.
• The emulsion uses water to transport microscopic fat and oil particles through the hydrated leather fiber structure.
• When the leather has been properly prepared and acidified, the collagen protein fiber carries an ionic positive (+ve) charge.
• The negative Fatliquor 5.0 system is attracted to the positive leather fiber.
• The objective is not to stuff concentrated oil into the leather.
• The objective is to replenish the internal fat and oil system through an emulsion and ionic attraction.

This is the principle of fatliquoring.

 Restore Below Before Refining Above

• Fatliquor 5.0 belongs to the Restore Below stage of the Leather Doctor® system.
• The leather should first be identified and cleaned.
• Hydrator 3.3 then relaxes the cleaned leather.
• Fatliquor 5.0 replenishes the internal fat and oil system.
• Only after the leather's internal condition has been properly restored should surface refinishing or conditioning be considered where required.

 Restore Below → Refine Above

 This distinction is important because a surface can be refined while the leather underneath remains depleted.

  Why Hydrator 3.3 Comes First

• Fatliquor 5.0 works after hydration.
• Hydrator 3.3 relaxes the cleaned leather.
• Fatliquor 5.0 replenishes the internal fat and oil system.
• The hydrated leather provides the condition required for the Fatliquor emulsion to distribute through the fiber structure.

 For this reason, Fatliquor 5.0 and Hydrator 3.3 are designed to work together as part of the restorative process.

 Where Fatliquor 5.0 Fits

Fatliquor 5.0 is intended for leather that reveals a need for replenishment of its internal fat and oil system.

It may be useful when leather reveals:

• dryness,
• stiffness,
• loss of fullness,
• reduced suppleness,
• reduced flexibility,
• loss of natural drapery,
• or reduced resilience.

It can be used in restoration and maintenance applications where the leather's internal condition has been identified as requiring replenishment.
Very soft and sensitive leathers, including fine lambskin and vegetable-tanned leather, may be particularly responsive to fatliquoring.
The leather should always be identified and inspected before treatment.

  Suitable Leather Types

 Fatliquor 5.0 can be used with many types of leather, including:

• Aniline
• Full-Grain
• Nubuck
• Shearling
• Suede
• Vachetta
• Vegetable-Tanned
• Woolskin
• Hair-on Hide

Different leathers can have different fatliquor requirements.
Vegetable-tanned leather is typically more fatliquor-thirsty than common chrome-tanned leather and may require more to improve its fullness and suppleness.
When the leather type or condition is uncertain, identification and testing should come first.

 Fatliquor 5.0 vs. Fatliquor 5.0+

The formulation is available in two versions.

Fatliquor 5.0
     The standard unscented formulation.

Fatliquor 5.0+
     The scented version of Fatliquor 5.0.

 Both are designed for the same fundamental fatliquoring purpose.

• Choose Fatliquor 5.0 when you prefer the standard formulation.
• Choose Fatliquor 5.0+ when you prefer the scented version.

  Sizes and Dilution

 Fatliquor 5.0 is supplied in ready-to-dilute fill sizes and concentrate sizes.

 Fill Sizes: Add distilled water in grams at 1:5 before use.

• 4 oz Fill — 95 g 
• 8 oz Fill — 189 g 
• 16 oz Fill — 378 g 
• 32 oz Fill — 756 g 

 Concentrate Sizes: Equals approximately quarts after dilution with distilled water.

• 8 oz Concentrate — 1.5 quarts 
• 32 oz Concentrate — 6 quarts 
• 1 Gal × 4 Qt Concentrate — 24 quarts 
• 3 Gal × 12 Qt Concentrate — 72 quarts 
• 5 Gal Pail Concentrate — 120 quarts

 What Fatliquor 5.0 Does Not Replace

• Fatliquor 5.0 is not a substitute for cleaning.
• Foreign contamination, body oils, grease, old conditioners, and other unwanted materials should be identified and removed before fatliquoring.
• It is also not a substitute for refinishing.
• If the leather's surface reveals colour, finish, or appearance differences after the internal condition has been addressed, refinishing may be required.

Fatliquor 5.0 works below the surface.
Refinishing works above it.
