Suede Hydrator 3.3 (Hydrator 3.3) by Leather Doctor® is a pH 3.3 Suede-Safe™ structural relaxing treatment formulated to hydrate suede fibers, reduce inter-fiber adhesion, and prepare the suede structure for effective fatliquor restoration.

Unlike moisturizing products that focus on adding temporary moisture, Hydrator 3.3 functions as a preparation stage within the Suede-Safe™ Care Sequence, helping suede become more receptive to the replenishment of essential fat and oil lubricants.

Hydrator 3.3 works best when followed by Fatliquor 5.0 before the suede dries completely.

 What It Does:

Relaxes Fiber Structure

 The Suede-Safe™ Philosophy

  • Remove what shouldn't be there.
  • Restore what should be there.
  • Refine what makes suede feel like suede.

Hydrator 3.3 belongs to the restoration stage, where the suede structure is prepared to receive the lubricants necessary for suppleness and durability.

 What Is Suede Hydrator 3.3?

Hydrator 3.3 is a water-based structural relaxing treatment designed to temporarily hydrate suede fibers and reduce the intermolecular attractions that contribute to stiffness and rigidity.

By hydrating the fiber structure, Hydrator 3.3 helps:

  • Relax compacted fibers
  • Release trapped residues
  • Improve product penetration
  • Prepare suede for Fatliquor 5.0

Its role is not to permanently soften suede but to facilitate restoration.

 Why Use Suede Hydrator 3.3?

1. Relaxes Fiber Structure

  • Dry suede fibers may become compacted and less receptive to restorative treatments.
  • Hydrator 3.3 temporarily hydrates the fiber structure to encourage relaxation and improved flexibility during restoration.

2. Prepares for Fatliquor 5.0

  • Hydrator 3.3 is the preparation stage before fatliquoring.
  • Hydrated fibers are better able to absorb and distribute fat and oil lubricants throughout the suede structure.

3. Helps Release Residual Contamination

  • Hydration may assist in loosening and releasing residual contamination that remains trapped within the suede structure after cleaning and rinsing.

4. Improves Restoration Efficiency

  • By reducing inter-fiber adhesion, Hydrator 3.3 helps maximize the effectiveness of subsequent fatliquor applications.

5. Supports Uniform Lubrication Distribution

Hydrated fiber structures provide a more receptive pathway for Fatliquor 5.0 to distribute lubricants evenly.

 Tannery Science Insight

  • In traditional tanning operations, dried hides are rehydrated during soaking to relax the fiber structure before subsequent processing stages.
  • Hydrator 3.3 applies the same principle to suede restoration.
  • Hydrator 3.3 temporarily increases moisture content within the suede structure, helping relax fiber adhesion and improve receptivity to fatliquor restoration.
  • As the suede dries, this temporary moisture dissipates. The lasting restoration comes from the replenishment of internal lubricants through Fatliquor 5.0.
  • The lasting restoration comes from Fatliquor 5.0, not from the water itself.

    Hydrator 3.3

Posted by Nicholas Conte on 17th May 2025

Wow! It’s amazing and a miracle. When I first saw the bottles I thought there was very little in the hydrator 3.3 bottle but it and the Fatliquor 5.0 were easy to mix and apply and they completely restored the zebra skin !!! I wish I knew about this product line when I first bought the zebra foot stool. If I ever need it again - without question, I will be back as a customer. The skin was starting to get stiff and hard… But these products totally restored the vitality and flexibility of the skin to its initial form. Amazing
