Leather Doctor® Leather Rinse 4.4 is a slow-drying technical rinse specifically developed to follow Absorbent Leather Gel Degreaser 4.4.
- It is not simply a conventional water rinse.
- Its role is to release the spent degreasing gel, mobilize emulsified oil and grease, and facilitate controlled extraction with a clean towel.

What Exactly Is Leather Rinse 4.4 Doing?
- After the Gel Degreaser has loosened and captured oil, sebum, grease, and other oily contamination, the spent gel and lifted contamination must be removed from the leather.
- Leather Rinse 4.4 provides the controlled liquid phase needed to complete that extraction.
It helps:
- Release the spent gel.
- Mobilize emulsified oils and grease.
- Remove residual cleaning material.
- Facilitate towel extraction.
- Keep the towel sufficiently moist for controlled wiping.
- Provide additional working time before drying.
The result is a more controlled transition from degreasing → extraction → restoration.
Why Is Leather Rinse 4.4 Needed After Gel Degreasing?
- Absorbent Leather Gel Degreaser 4.4 is intentionally formulated as a high-viscosity gel.
- This allows the degreaser to remain concentrated in the treatment area while it works on oily contamination.
- Once the contamination has been captured and emulsified, however, the spent gel must be removed.
This is the specific role of Leather Rinse 4.4.
- The rinse is therefore not an optional afterthought.
- It is the extraction partner that completes the work of the gel degreaser.

Why Does Leather Rinse 4.4 Use More?
The two products perform different jobs and therefore are not normally consumed in equal quantities.
The practical working-consumption ratio is approximately:
1 : 2–3
1 part Absorbent Leather Gel Degreaser 4.4
2–3 parts Leather Rinse 4.4
This is a practical use ratio, not a dilution ratio.
The gel is highly concentrated and remains where it is applied.
The rinse is consumed progressively during extraction because it is used to:
- Wet the towel.
- Release the spent gel.
- Extract emulsified oils and grease.
- Keep the towel moving smoothly.
- Replace contaminated towel sections.
- Complete additional extraction passes when necessary.
Therefore, using two to three times more rinse than gel is a normal part of the process.
Leather-Safe™ pH 4.4
- Leather Rinse 4.4 is calibrated to pH 4.4, matching Absorbent Leather Gel Degreaser 4.4.
- The closely matched pH provides a controlled transition between the degreasing and extraction stages without introducing a large pH change during the process.
- This is particularly useful when treating absorbent and semi-absorbent leather where uncontrolled wetting and drying can create uneven appearance.
Slow-Drying Technical Design
Leather Rinse 4.4 is designed with a slower drying profile than rapidly evaporating solvent-based rinses.
This provides additional working time for controlled extraction.
The technician can
- Re-wet the towel as necessary.
- Change to a clean section of the towel.
- Perform additional extraction passes.
- Even out localized moisture.
- Complete the treatment without rushing.
The objective is controlled extraction rather than flash drying.
How To Apply
Step 1 — Apply Gel Degreaser 4.4
- Apply Absorbent Leather Gel Degreaser 4.4 to the contaminated area or to a clean Microfiber Towel 3.
- Work gently with a soft-bristled Leather Brush 1 or clean white towel.
- Allow approximately 1–2 minutes of dwell time.
- Do not allow the gel to dry completely.
Step 2 — Apply Leather Rinse 4.4
- Apply Leather Rinse 4.4 to a clean Microfiber Towel 3.
- Do not unnecessarily flood the leather directly.
- The towel should be sufficiently moistened to perform controlled extraction.
Step 3 — Release & Extract
- Wipe the treated area using controlled linear or cross-hatch passes.
- As the spent gel and contamination transfer to the towel, move to a clean section.
- Continue until the spent gel and lifted contamination have been effectively extracted.
- Additional passes may be used as necessary.
Step 4 — Dry Naturally
- Allow the leather to dry naturally.
- Do not rush the drying process.
- Once the leather has dried and equilibrated, inspect the result before moving to the next restoration stage.
Continue the Rejuvenation:
Leather Rinse 4.4 completes the removal and extraction stage.
It does not replenish the leather.
After significant degreasing, continue as required with:
- Hydrator 3.3 → Fatliquor 5.0 → Conditioner 3.2

- Completes the conditioning stage.
