Product Overview
Leather Deglazer, Hydrator and Fatliquor Kit Z2 by Leather Doctor® for stripping unwanted painted lambskin leather to its original softness, elegance, and luxury.
Why are these Leather Doctor® products the simple essentials when restoring an unwanted painted lambskin leather?
1. Leather Deglazer 2.3 – For Stripping Unwanted Paint
Purpose:
To remove non-original painted finishes that mask the natural beauty, softness, and breathability of lambskin leather.
Why it's necessary:
Lambskin is ultra-fine and delicate, and many DIY or aftermarket paint applications form a suffocating, plasticky layer on its surface.
These paints disrupt the leather’s ability to breathe, flex, and absorb conditioning agents.
Deglazer 2.3 is a leather-safe system specially formulated to dissolve unwanted film-forming finishes without damaging the underlying leather grain.
It restores the absorbency of the lambskin so it can properly undergo reconditioning in the next steps.
Important:
Mechanical scraping or harsh stripping chemicals can damage lambskin’s fine grain – Deglazer 2.3 safely softens ready to strip by gentle brushing.
2. Leather Hydrator 3.3 – For Relaxing and Reopening the Leather Structure
Purpose:
To relax stiffened leather fibers and restore moisture before replenishing fat and oil.
Why it's necessary after deglazing:
The wet stripping process temporarily wets out the leather, and as it dries, the exposed structure may collapse and stiffen.
Hydration is crucial to “plump up” the fibrous structure and restore its softness and receptiveness to fatliquoring.
Hydrator 3.3, a surfactant-based aqueous conditioner, lowers surface tension, allowing deeper penetration into the leather matrix.
It helps reduce fiber stress, wrinkling, and stiffness by re-aligning and lubricating the internal structure.
Think of Hydrator 3.3 as a "fiber relaxer" that keeps the leather supple and prepares it to accept the fat and oil that give it luxurious feel.
3. Leather Fatliquor 5.0 – For Replenishing Natural Fat and Oil
Purpose:
To restore the leather’s original fatliquor content (fat and oil) lost during deglazing and age.
Why it's essential before the leather dries again:
Lambskin leather is originally infused with fatliquor during tanning to give it softness, flexibility, and resistance to cracking.
When this fatliquor is lost — through stripping, drying, or age — the leather becomes brittle, noisy, and stiff.
Fatliquor 5.0 restores the natural emulsion of fat (for softness) and oil (for flexibility) that lubricates the protein fibers.
If leather is allowed to dry without replenishment, the fibers will stick together, resulting in a stiff and noisy leather.
This mimics the tannery’s re-tanning process to rebuild the leather’s internal structure, ensuring the restored lambskin retains its signature buttery feel.
