1. What is Vachetta Leather?

Vachetta is an unfinished vegetable-tanned leather, also known as saddlery, bridle, equestrian, craft, or tooling leather, and can be found in bags, boots, wallets, and furniture.

How to Use this Vachetta Leather Problem-Solving Matrix?

2. How to Use this Vachetta Leather Problem-Solving Matrix?

  • This matrix categorizes common issues with Vachetta into five groups:
    • Soil, Stain,  Odor,  Structure, and  Finish (listed in the left column).
    • Corresponding recommended products are displayed across the top row.
    • Each number within the matrix indicates the steps required to address the problem holistically.

For example:
If a leather issue involves an unknown compound that combines soil, stain, and odor, follow the sequence across the matrix, combining necessary steps from each category.

The process should always conclude with:

  • Hydrator 3.3 to rehydrate and relax the leather.
  • Fatliquor 5.0 to replenish lost fats and oils, restoring suppleness.
  • Protector B conditioning the leather for ongoing durability.

3. Why does Vachetta become Browns?

When new, Vachetta has a pale biscuit color. When exposed to sunlight and UV light, natural vegetable tannins take on a suntan color, just like our pale skin.

4. Why does Vachetta Develop Water Spotting?

Vachetta is pH-sensitive and develops water spotting, just like litmus paper changes color. Even clean liquid with a pH of 7 makes the tanning color fugitive to the ring edge.

5. How to Remove Water Spotting?

Water spotting develops from any clear liquid with a pH above 7. Even clean tap water or rainwater will spot this pH-sensitive Vachetta. Water spotting removal is cleaned with Vachetta 1.2 and rinsed with Acidifier 2.0.

6. What is the Sequence of Leather Wet Cleaning Processes?

A leather wet cleaning process is a continuous process where the leather is constantly maintained at a moisture level of approximately 25%. This minimum moisture level is important for the leather to retain before the final fatliquoring process with Fatliquor 5.0. Otherwise, existing cracks will accelerate, accentuate, or magnify. The optimum fatliquor (fat and oil) moisture level should reach 14% when dry to avoid the ill effect of drying without sufficient fatliquor. Fast drying will stiffen the leather, and slow natural drying will produce softer leather.

7. How to Work in Sequence with Hydrator 3.3?

When almost dry at 25%, continue with Hydrator 3.3 to an even appearance and towel extract.

8. How to Work in Sequence with Fatliquor 5.0?

Before Hydrator-3.3 dries to 25%, proceed with Fatliquor 5.0 with a continuous round until fully saturated.
