Modeled after the tannery fatliquoring process, it restores suppleness, flexibility, resilience, and durability by replenishing internal lubrication lost through age, wear, cleaning, environmental exposure, and prolonged dryness.
Unlike surface conditioners, Fatliquor 5.0 works within the fiber structure where softness, flexibility, and strength originate.
What It Does:
Restores Suppleness
Why Hydrator 3.3 Comes Before Fatliquor 5.0
Hydrator 3.3 prepares the leather; Fatliquor 5.0 replenishes its internal lubrication.
-
Hydrator 3.3 — Temporary Hydration and Fiber Relaxation: Temporarily hydrates and relaxes the leather fiber structure, preparing it to receive Fatliquor 5.0. It serves as a preparatory medium rather than a permanent source of internal lubrication.
-
Fatliquor 5.0 — Internal Fat and Oil Replenishment: Replenishes the internal fats and oils that lubricate the leather fibers, helping maintain or restore softness, suppleness, and flexibility.
When Should Fatliquor 5.0 Be Applied?
Use a wet-on-wet application sequence during leather rejuvenation. Apply Fatliquor 5.0 after Hydrator 3.3 has sufficiently hydrated and relaxed the leather, while the leather remains appropriately moist and receptive to absorption.
The application window is determined by the leather's condition, not a fixed waiting time:
-
Apply Hydrator 3.3 to the absorbent leather as directed, allowing it to penetrate and relax the fiber structure.
-
Apply Fatliquor 5.0 while the leather remains appropriately hydrated. Do not wait for the leather to dry completely between these stages.
-
If the leather has dried before fatliquoring, reassess its condition and follow the recommended procedure for rehydration before proceeding, if necessary.
Work in controlled applications, allowing each product to penetrate without saturating the leather or leaving excessive liquid on the surface. Avoid applying additional solution when the leather is already too wet to absorb it effectively.
Are Both Products Always Necessary?
Not for every cleaning or maintenance task. When absorbent leather requires rejuvenation because of dryness, stiffness, or reduced suppleness, Hydrator 3.3 and Fatliquor 5.0 perform complementary functions. Hydrator temporarily relaxes the fiber structure; Fatliquor replenishes the internal fats and oils.
Remember: Hydrator 3.3 prepares the leather, and Fatliquor 5.0 replenishes its internal lubrication. Apply wet-on-wet while the leather remains appropriately hydrated and receptive—not after complete drying.
- Remove what shouldn't be there.
- Restore what should be there.
- Refine what makes suede feel like suede.
- Fatliquor 5.0 is a water-based restorative conditioner designed to replenish the lubricating fat and oil content that suede fibers gradually lose through use, aging, cleaning, and environmental exposure.
- In the tannery, fatliquoring is the process responsible for transforming stiff, dried hides into soft, flexible leather.
- Fatliquor 5.0 recreates this essential restoration process for suede, nubuck, shearling, and roughout leather.
1. Restores Internal Lubrication
- Stiff
- Dry
- Brittle
- Boardy
- Prone to ripping and tear.
Fatliquor 5.0 replenishes these lubricants to restore natural movement and flexibility.
2. Restores Suppleness
Suppleness is more than softness. It is the ability of suede fibers to move freely without stress or damage.
- Flexibility
- Resilience
- Elasticity
- Drape
- Comfort
while helping reduce stiffness and brittleness.
3. Improves Durability
Properly lubricated fibers experience less friction during movement.
This helps:
- Improve tensile strength
- Reduce fiber fatigue
- Increase durability
- Extend service life
4. Supports Long-Term Performance
Fatliquor 5.0 helps maintain suede's original performance characteristics by restoring the lubrication necessary for healthy fiber movement and structural integrity.
Tannery Science Insight
- Leather and suede are stabilized protein-fiber structures that depend on lubricating fats and oils for flexibility.
- During tanning, these lubricants are introduced through a process known as fatliquoring.
- As leather ages, lubricants may migrate, oxidize, diminish, or be removed through cleaning and environmental exposure.
- Fatliquor 5.0 replenishes these lost lubricants, helping restore the fiber structure to a healthier and more supple condition.

5 Fatliquor 5.0 is Amazing and a miracle product
Posted by nick on 11th Aug 2025
My zebra skin footstool had become hard, a bit brittle and not flexible. Fatliquor 5.0 Restored the Hyde to its original textures. I’ve never seen anything rebound like this before. Wow! It’s amazing and a miracle. When I first saw the bottles I thought there was very little in the hydrator 3.3 bottle but it and the Fatliquor 5.0 were easy to mix and apply and they completely restored the zebra skin !!! I wish I knew about this product line when I first bought the zebra foot stool. If I ever need it again - without question, I will be back as a customer.
