Saddlery Degreaser 2.2 (Degreaser 2.2) by Leather Doctor®

  • Professional Leather-Safe™ pH 2.2 Water-Based Leather Degreaser for Horse Saddles & Tack

Saddlery Degreaser 2.2 (Degreaser 2.2) by Leather Doctor® is a Leather-Safe™, water-based, pH 2.2 professional degreaser designed to remove embedded body oils, grease, perspiration residue, saddle soap residue, and conditioner build-up from horse saddles and tack without compromising the leather's internal chemistry.

  • Unlike ordinary solvent degreasers that simply dissolve oils, Degreaser 2.2 safely suspends embedded contamination for complete removal with Rinse 3.0 Cleaning Stabilizer, preparing leather for balanced restoration.

Clean Deep. Stabilize Completely. Restore Correctly.

 Why Degreaser 2.2?

Degreaser 2.2 is not a stronger version of Super Cleaner 4.9.
It is a different cleaning tool designed specifically for embedded oil contamination.
Use it only when contamination has penetrated beyond the capability of routine cleaners.
Typical contaminants include:

  • Body oils
  • Perspiration residue
  • Grease
  • Saddle soap residue
  • Conditioner build-up
  • Oily darkened areas
  • Sticky leather caused by accumulated oils

When used appropriately, Degreaser 2.2 cleans deeply while maintaining leather's natural balance.

 Leather Doctor® Core System

  • Degreaser 2.2 belongs to the Prepare stage of the Leather Doctor® Core System™.

PREPARE

Choose the least aggressive cleaner capable of removing the contamination.

  • Soft Cleaner 3.8 — Light soiling
  • Strong Cleaner 4.3 — Moderate soiling
  • Super Cleaner 4.9 — Heavy soiling
  • Degreaser 2.2 — Embedded oils, grease, perspiration and conditioner build-up
  • Rinse 3.0 — Cleaning Stabilizer

Most routine leather care is completed within the Core System™.
Specific leather conditions requiring diagnosis are addressed through the Leather Doctor® Specialty System™.

 Why Cleaning Progresses This Way

Leather does not benefit from using the strongest cleaner first.
Instead, Leather Doctor® follows a progressive cleaning philosophy:

  • Start with the mildest cleaner capable of solving the contamination.
  • Only increase cleaning strength when necessary.
  • This approach minimizes unnecessary cleaning while preserving leather's natural chemistry and long-term performance.

Why Rinse 3.0 Always Follows Degreaser 2.2

Degreaser 2.2 loosens and suspends embedded contamination.
Rinse 3.0 completes the cleaning process by:

  • Removing suspended oils and residues
  • Removing remaining cleaner residue
  • Stabilizing leather after cleaning
  • Preparing leather for restoration

Cleaning is not complete until the leather has been rinsed.
