Leather Rinse pH 4.0 (Rinse 4.0)
Rinse 4.0 is a Leather-Safe™ pH-balancing rinse formulated at pH 4.0 to stabilize collagen leather fibers after corrective cleaning treatments within the Leather Doctor® system.
Following acidic or alkaline corrections, leather requires controlled pH restoration to prevent structural imbalance.
Rinse 4.0 returns leather to its natural acidic stability zone (pH 3.0–5.0), where collagen integrity and tanning bonds remain secure.
Why Rinse 4.0 Is Essential
Leather is highly pH-sensitive.
Residual acids, alkalinity, and dissolved salts left after cleaning can destabilize the fiber structure.
Rinse 4.0 performs critical restoration functions:
✔ Removes dissolved salt residues
✔ Neutralizes alkaline traces after Basifier 8.0
✔ Stabilizes collagen fiber chemistry
✔ Restores ionic balance within the leather matrix
Without proper rinsing, hidden residues may lead to:
✖ Surface tackiness
✖ Dye bleeding
✖ Uneven drying
✖ Long-term stiffness and fiber fatigue
Rinse 4.0 ensures leather is properly reset before hydration and conditioning.
Key Features & Benefits
Removes Salt Residues
Breaks down and flushes out crystallized salts trapped within the leather structure.
Restores Natural pH Balance
Returns leather to its optimal pH range (3.0–5.0) after alkaline or acidic treatments.
Prevents Tackiness & Dye Bleeding
Stabilizes the internal chemistry to protect surface feel and color integrity.
Rebalances Ionic Structure
Supports proper bonding of tanning agents, dyes, and fatliquor oils.
Preserves Softness & Durability
Maintains suppleness and prevents stiffness, brittleness, and long-term damage.
Recommended Usage
1️⃣ Step 1 – Dilution
Dilute with distilled water at 1:40 ratio.
2️⃣ Step 2 – Apply After Corrective Cleaning
Use following treatments such as:
• Sweat 1.0
• Tarnish 1.3
• Tannin 3.5
• Basifier 8.0
3️⃣ Step 3 – Gentle Application
Apply using a soft brush, sponge, or towel.
Light agitation helps release embedded residues.
4️⃣ Step 4 – Extract Residue
Blot with a clean absorbent towel until it lifts clean.
Avoid aggressive rubbing.
5️⃣ Step 5 – Finger Test
Leather should feel clean, slightly squeaky, and residue-free.
6️⃣ Step 6 – Natural Drying
Air dry at room temperature.
Avoid heat.
7️⃣ Step 7 – Follow-Up Conditioning
While slightly damp, proceed with:
• Hydrator 3.3 – fiber relaxation
• Fatliquor 5.0 – oil replenishment
System Positioning
Rinse 4.0 is not optional — it is a critical transition step.
It bridges:
➡ Correction (cleaning / stain removal)
➡ Structural restoration (hydration & fatliquoring)
Skipping this step risks locking in chemical imbalance within the leather.
Summary
Rinse 4.0 is the essential pH restoration stage in the Leather Doctor® Leather-Safe™ system.
By removing salt residues, neutralizing alkalinity, and restoring the leather’s natural pH balance, it prepares the fiber structure for optimal hydration, conditioning, and long-term durability.
