People Also Ask:
What is Suede?
Suede is the reverse side of leather that has a velvety nap from small animal skin such as lamb to a cow with a coarser fuzzy napped finish.
Suedes from the larger hide may be further split into a few layers known as split suede with both sides napped, with the finer texture towards the grain side and the coarser side to the flesh side.
Why Suede becomes Tacky and Bleed?
Suede by nature is both hydrophilic, water-loving, and oleophilic, oil-loving protein fiber material that easily absorbs body contact oil, grease, and sweat.
Suede, when saturated with body sweat, attracts the atmospheric bacteria, and when ferments turn alkaline and in severe cases an ammonia odor permeates.
Suede is an amphoteric material, and as such the ionic positive (+ve) charges weaken in the presence of alkaline and shift ionic negative (-ve), while the ionic negative (-ve) leather constituent like the tanning agent and dyestuff remains unchanged.
Suede protein fiber at the fermenting stage breaks the hydrogen bond with the tanning agent that turns the leather tacky, similar to the dyestuff that begins to bleed.
How to Degrease Suede?
Suede is degreased in the following holistic sequence of 7 steps . . .
1- Suede is generally clean with brushing, erasing, and vacuuming.
2- Stain is worked with a brass Suede Brush-3 together with Suede Eraser-5 and cotton terry towel for soil extraction.
3- Leather Degreaser-2.2 is used for degreasing and rinsing with Leather Acidifier-2.0.
4- Suede Cleaner-4.5 is used for general overall cleaning including the stain-clean areas and followed by Suede Rinse-2.3.
5- Hydrator-3.3 is used to relax the suede to plump softness prior to Leather Fatliquor-5.0.
6- Leather Fatliquor-5.0 is used to top up the conditioning fat and oil for suede softness when dry.
7- Leather Protector-S/W is used as a non-stick, rub-resistant protector with a silky/waxy feel.
"Why the following products are picked as a holistic degreasing system for suede?"
The answer . . .
Leather Degreaser-2.2 and Leather Acidifier-2.0 system!
Leather Degreaser-2.2 is a pH 2.2 water-based hydrocarbon degreaser with dye bleeding control for penetrated oil, grease, and sweat stains from skin, and hair contact.
Degreaser-2.2 also charges the suede protein fiber ionic positive (+ve) for strengthening the ionic attraction between the ionic negative (-ve) tanning agent, dyestuff, and fatliquor eliminating most potential side effects, unlike others.
Leather Acidifier-2.0 is a water-based acidifier with a pH value of 2.0 that works in sync with Degreaser-2.2 to rinse and pH-balance by charging the suede protein fiber ionic positive (+ve) to increase the attraction between the ionic negative (-ve) suede constituent like the tanning agent, dyestuff, and fatliquor from tackiness, bleeding, and stiffness.
Suede Cleaner-4.5 and Suede Rinse-2.3 system!
Suede Cleaner-4.5 is an all-purpose suede sanitizer-cleaner with a pH value of 4.5 without the potential side effects like tackiness and dye bleeding on split and sensitive napa suede.
Suede Rinse-2.3 is a pH value 2.3 rinse that sync with Suede Cleaner-4.5 to remove suspended soiling that also functions as a pH balancer to resolve any alkaline overexposure sticky or bleeding issue.
Leather Hydrator-3.3 and Leather Fatliquor-5.0 system!
Leather Hydrator-3.3 is a water-based pH-3.3 leather-safe relaxing pre-conditioner to open up the suede fibers for better Fatliquor-5.0 penetration and distribution.
Leather Fatliquor-5.0 is a pH value of 5.0 micro-emulsion of fat, oil, and water conditioner for rejuvenating and restoring suede to its original softness.
Fatliquor-5.0 on application, the water-encased molecule breaks free when ionic attraction takes place between the fat and oil with the suede protein fiber. The excess free water content wicks out leaving a breathing space behind for suede's natural transpiration.
Leather Protector-S!
Leather Protector-S enhances a non-stick silky feel surface to shield against sticky soiling.
Why Products in Concentrates?
Concentrate product has an indefinite shelf life, does not freeze, has less handling damage, and save on shipping weight.
Concentrates in the bottle have to be cut/mixed with distilled water prior to use.
How to work with Leather Degreaser-2.2 and Leather Acidifier-2.0 system?
1- Degreaser-2.2 is shaken to gel prior to use.
2- Degreaser-2.2 is transferred onto a brass Suede Brush-3 or Suede Eraser-5 before applying to the stain to avoid overloading the suede.
3- Suede is brushed in one direction at an angle to avoid scratches and suspended soiling is extracted with a white cotton terry towel changing folding sides until the towel shows clean.
4- Acidifier-2.0 is sprayed, brushed, and erased with both suede brush and eraser and towel extract changing folds until the towel shows clean.
5- Acidifier-2.0 is again sprayed and left to dwell if the suede feels sticky or slimy until a squeaky feel with finger testing is a sign of good pH-balanced healthy suede.
How to work with Suede Cleaner-4.5 and Suede Rinse-2.3 system?
1- Cleaner-4.5 is sprayed, brushed, erased, and towel extracted until new folding shows clean.
2- Rinse-2.3 is sprayed, brushed,, and erased with towel extraction until new folding sides show clean.
How to work with Leather Hydrator-3.3 and Leather Fatliquor-5.0 system?
1- Hydrator-3.3 is sprayed, brushed, and erased into the suede structure to plump with moisture oozing out when gently pressed between thumb and fingers.
2- Hydrator-3.3 moisture saturation is towel extracted until folding changing new sides shows clean and is ready for Fatliquor-5.0 conditioning
3- Fatliquor-5.0 is sprayed over the damp suede and works to plump the suede again with saturation and left to naturally dry.
4- Fatliquor-5.0 each application is repeated to be left naturally dry until the last application is fully saturated
5- With the last application almost dry staking, massaging, and flexing the suede to fully dry produce a softer suede.
How to work with Leather Protector-S?
1- Protector-S is sprayed and brushed for an even appearance when dry brushed to raise the soft nap for a finger-writing effect.
