A3 – Aniline Leather Foundation Cleaning & Conditioning System
Kit A3 is the foundation system that cleans, balances, and prepares leather for all Leather Doctor® targeted correction systems.
The essential first step to clean, restore, and prepare aniline leather for targeted correction systems.
WHY THIS SYSTEM IS DIFFERENT
Aniline leather is highly absorbent, with an open pore structure that allows contaminants to penetrate beneath the surface into the fiber network.
Most products clean only the surface.
The A3 system works within the leather structure to:
- Release absorbed soil and contamination
- Suspend residues for safe removal
- Restore internal lubrication (fatliquor)
- Preserve softness, breathability, and natural appearance
CORE SYSTEM PRINCIPLE
A3 prepares the leather structure.
Targeted systems solve the problem.
WHAT A3 DOES
- Removes accumulated soil and environmental contamination
- Cleans within the leather fiber structure
- Restores softness, suppleness, and flexibility
- Rebalances pH for structural stability
- Prepares leather for targeted correction systems
WHAT A3 DOES NOT DO
A3 is a foundation system and does not directly remove:
- Protein stains (blood, food, perspiration residues)
- Penetrated body oils (grease, sweat buildup)
- Tannin stains (water marks, plant-based discoloration)
- Dye transfer (denim, ink, pigments)
These require specialized systems after A3 preparation
THE A3 FOUNDATION PROCESS
1️⃣ Step 1 – Preparatory Cleaning
Prep 4.4
A Leather-Safe™ pH 4.4 preparatory cleaner designed to loosen accumulated soiling and surface buildup.
2️⃣ Step 2 – Cleaning
Soft 3.8
A Leather-Safe™, pH 3.8 mild cleaner that gently emulsifies and lifts soiling without causing side effects such as rings, browning, stiffness, or discoloration.
3️⃣ Step 3 – Rinsing
Rinse 3.0
A Leather-Safe™ pH 3.0 rinsing conditioner that removes suspended soil and restores leather’s pH balance.
4️⃣ Step 4 – Hydrating
Hydrator 3.3
A Leather-Safe™ pH 3.3 hydrating conditioner that relaxes fibers and prepares the leather for fatliquoring.
5️⃣ Step 5 – Fatliquoring
Fatliquor 5.0
A Leather-Safe™ pH 5.0 micro-emulsion of fat, oil, and water that replenishes essential lubrication and restores suppleness.
6️⃣ Step 6 – Protection
Conditioner B
A Leather-Safe™ pH 3.2 buttery-feel, non-stick, rub-resistant conditioner that enhances durability and protects against wear.
WHY A3 IS ALWAYS REQUIRED FIRST
Without proper preparation:
- Stains remain masked
- Treatments are less effective
- Results are inconsistent
With A3:
- Leather is clean, balanced, and receptive
- Targeted systems work more effectively
Cleaning reveals the true condition.
Preparation enables correct treatment.
SYSTEM EXTENSION (PROBLEM-SOLVING)
After completing A3, select the appropriate system:
- General Soiling → A3
- Body Oil → DHS3
- Protein/Blood → Blood System
- Tannin → Tannin System
- Dye → Dye System
For advanced conditions (odor, mold, urine, etc.), refer to the Leather Problem-Solving Matrix.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Some stains may only become visible after proper cleaning.
This is a normal and expected result of structural cleaning.
EXPECTATION GUIDE
- Results are progressive, not instant
- Deep contamination may require multiple cycles
- Correct identification leads to correct results
FINAL NOTE
A3 delivers professional-level preparation—so targeted correction systems can achieve accurate and consistent results.
Your opinions, insights, and reviews are valuable and help us improve our guidance and better solve your leather care challenges.

Care Kit A3
I was able to remove older cleaning product applications and start fresh with these products. Took some time but the results were worth it.

The Best On The Market
I've searched high and low for the best leather cleaners and conditioners and they were hiding in this small company. I sunk a lot of money into my Wolverine 1000 Mile boots, so I want the best to ensure they last as long as possible. Leather tanneries stress the importance of pH levels and what to stay away from to get the best from their leather. Nobody takes pH and the many needs of leather more seriously than Leather Doctor. I found this kit to be all encompassing in that it included everything I needed. The cleaners did an excellent job of removing sweat, dirt, oils, old conditioners, and wax. My boots looked practically right out of the box. My favorite was Hydrator3.3, I thought my boots were in great shape and were supple enough already, but this product took them to another level and decreased the creases significantly. After Fatliquor and ProtectorB, they looked, smelled, and felt amazing. I can't thank Leather Doctor enough for making such an amazing product. The kit comes at a very steep cost, but are well worth it.
