Product Overview

Aniline Finish Topcoat Gloss 21 by Leather Doctor® is a water-based, leather-safe, glossy polyurethane topcoat formulated for sealing, protecting, and enhancing the finish of lambskin garments, handbags, and other aniline leathers.

It features excellent flow and leveling properties that result in a smooth, soft, flexible film—ideal for luxury leather goods requiring a refined sheen without stiffness.

This gloss finish is a lighter, more breathable variant of Gloss 76, containing a lower solid content that enables a faster development of micro-crazing—a desirable fine-texture effect that allows enhanced breathability and body contact comfort while preserving leather's natural beauty and handfeel.

Gloss 21 is also:

Recoatable, making it suitable for multi-layered application processes.

Lightfast and non-yellowing, ensuring long-term clarity and finish integrity.

Resilient to friction wear, maintaining a uniform sheen with proper care.

For projects that demand even greater shine, Leather Finish Topcoat High Gloss 3V is recommended as a high-gloss alternative.

 Instructions for Use

 Preparation:

Add 3 parts distilled water to 1 part Gloss 21 and swirl gently until homogeneously mixed.

Application Methods:

Padding: Use a lint-free applicator cloth for controlled, streak-free application.
Brushing: Use a soft, fine-bristle brush to spread evenly over the leather surface.
Airbrushing (recommended for professional results): Use a fine airbrush setup to apply light, even coats, one panel at a time.

Coating Process:

  1. Apply the first coat uniformly, avoiding streaks, drips, or spits.
  2. Allow to air dry or speed dry with low heat and airflow.
  3. Repeat for 2 to 3 coats, allowing each layer to dry thoroughly before applying the next.

  Pro Tips for Best Results:

For optimal performance, the leather surface should be clean, degreased, and pH-balanced prior to topcoat application (using products like Degreaser 2.2, Soft 3.0 follows with Rinse 3.0).
Apply in a dust-free environment to avoid particles settling on the finish.
After the topcoat cures, apply Protector B or Protector B Plus (with leather scent) to impart a non-stick, rub-resistant protection, which improves wear resistance and prolongs the life of the finish.
